New Delhi, March 31: Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader organised a protest on Thursday, March 31, against the recent sharp increase in petrol prices.
News agency ANI reported that Rahul Gandhi, speaking from Delhi’s Vijay Chowk, said: “In the last 10 days, petrol and diesel price have been increased 9 times. We demand that the rising prices should be brought under control. Congress party is holding nationwide protests on this issue today.”
In the national capital, petrol costs Rs 101.81 per litre and diesel costs Rs 93.07 per litre as of Thursday. Fuel prices in Mumbai increased by 84 paise, taking the cost of petrol and diesel to Rs 116.72 and Rs 100.94, respectively.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a Congress MP who joined other party leaders in the protest, said: “We had predicted that as soon as elections in 5 states will conclude the fuel prices will be hiked. We demand that fuel prices be rolled back. The govt cannot understand the difficulties being faced by the public because of rising fuel prices.”
