Bengaluru, April 16: Rahul Gandhi, will travel to poll-bound Karnataka for a two-day visit and participate in a number of activities, including a party rally on Sunday in Kolar.
Gandhi is making his first trip to the state since being barred from the Lok Sabha in 2019 due to his conviction in a defamation case.
He is anticipated to fly to Kolar from Bengaluru in the morning, according to party sources.
In Kolar, Gandhi will address a public meeting as part of the Congress’ “Jai Bharat” rally.
Rahul Gandhi made the remark on the Modi surname during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign in Kolar, which resulted in his conviction by a Gujarat court and his subsequent expulsion from Parliament.
The Kolar event, formerly known as “Satyameva Jayate,” had been scheduled for April 5 but had been delayed twice. The rally was renamed as Jai Bharat and moved to April 16.
The Congress leader would fly back to Bengaluru in the afternoon following his address at Kolar.
Gandhi will speak with “Pourakarmika,” sanitation workers, and street vendors in the state capital later that evening.
After the meeting, he will officially open the city’s newly constructed Indira Gandhi Bhawan, an office and auditorium with a capacity of 750 people.
The leader will spend the night at a hotel in Bengaluru. He will board a special flight from HAL airport on Monday to travel to Bkhalki in the Bidar district, where he will speak at a public gathering.
Eshwar Khandre, the working president of the Congress, is running from Bhalki.
Rahul Gandhi will speak at a different public event in the same district of Humnabad. In this assembly segment, Rajashekar Basavaraj Patil is running for Congress.
The Gandhi scion will take a chopper in the afternoon to Hyderabad, and from there he will fly back to Delhi.
The Congress has so far announced candidates for 209 seats in the 224-seat assembly, including 124 on the first list, 42 on the second list, and 43 on the third list.
The party has not yet declared the seats of 15 other candidates.
