Srinagar, Jan 29: Bharat, led by Rahul Gandhi The final leg of the Kashmir Jodo Yatra has begun, and it will end tomorrow (Monday). At 10 am, the yatra resumed in Srinagar’s Pantha Chowk and would stop there for a break.
At 10:45 am, Gandhi, wearing his signature white T-shirt, started the yatra with his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the general secretary of the Congress. The Gandhis carried the tricolour and party flags among hundreds of other Congress supporters, many of whom were women.
The yatra’s final day of walking occurs on Sunday. A multi-layer security ring has been set up around the city centre and the entire area surrounding Lal Chowk has been shut off.
At noon, Rahul Gandhi will raise the Tricolor at Lal Chowk in Srinagar to signal the conclusion of the September 7-starting foot march. The yatra will proceed from Lal Chowk to Nehru Park in the city’s Boulevard district.
On Monday, he will also speak at a public gathering at SK Stadium, to which 23 political opposition parties have been invited. However, according to sources, 12 opposition parties will attend the Bharat Jodo Yatra’s closing ceremony.
Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), joined Gandhi on Saturday and called the project “a breath of new air.”
