New Delhi, March 25: Rahul Gandhi will hold a press conference today at 1 pm, after being disqualified from Lok Sabha yesterday.
The ex-MP’s conference would be his first public remarks since being expelled from the parliament, prompting a flurry of objections from the Congress and other opposition figures, including Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
After a Gujarat court found Rahul Gandhi guilty in a criminal defamation case and gave him a two-year prison sentence on Thursday, he was stripped of his MP designation.
The former Wayanad MP stated in his initial remarks following his disqualification that he is willing to “pay any price.”
“I am fighting for India’s voice. I am willing to pay anything,” Gandhi tweeted in Hindi.
Following his disqualification, the former Congress leader’s Wayanad seat also became vacant.
On Thursday, Gandhi was convicted guilty of defamation for a 2019 campaign statement that suggested Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a felon. He is accused of saying in Kolar, Karnataka, “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname,” which prompted multiple complaints to be made against him in different states.
