New Delhi, Nov 12: Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party’s leader, won’t be able to make it to the winter session of Parliament because he would be preoccupied with the Bharat Jodo Yatra, according to Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, who is also in charge of communications.

The Congress MP wouldn’t miss the Bharat Jodo Yatra to attend the winter session of Parliament, according to Jairam Ramesh.

Jairam Ramesh said, “Congress party has taken a consistent position on this issue since 2014,” when questioned about the party’s stance on caste census and reservation. “The SC/ST/OBC reservations that are currently in place are supported by Congress for reservations in employment and education for economically disadvantaged groups in all communities,” he added.

The Congress leader added that the party said a caste census be conducted as soon as possible. “Caste censuses are required after the main census. Where is the basis to implement the reservation if a caste census doesn’t take place? The data basis on which reservations must be made must be kept current,” he said.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra started on September 7 in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, which is where India’s southernmost point is located. Gandhi, 52, has finished his arduous walk through the states of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana.
