New Delhi, Dec 16: The Bharat Jodo Yatra’s biggest accomplishment, according to senior Congressman K. C. Venugopal, was bringing attention to topics important to the general public during its 100-day journey.

From the Meena High Court,  Rahul Gandhi,  Venugopal, former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot, and other top party figures started the morning portion of the yatra.

“Bharat Jodo Yatra’s biggest achievement is that issues of the common people of the country have been highlighted through it,” Venugopal told PTI while walking in the yatra.

“The BJP’s attempt of demolishing his (Gandhi’s) image has also been destroyed by us,” he added.

The Congress general secretary for the organisation also emphasised that the party will launch a follow-up campaign on January 26 in order to further the yatra’s message.

The yatra, which began on September 7 in Kanyakumari, has travelled through eight states so far: Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. With more than 2,800 miles under his belt, Gandhi has attracted both his followers and his critics. The yatra has not been without controversy, with the Congress and the BJP frequently trading insults.

On December 24, the yatra will arrive in Delhi. After around eight days of rest, it will continue on to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and then Jammu and Kashmir.

A cross-section of society has participated in it, including stars from the cinema and television industries like Pooja Bhatt, Riya Sen, Sushant Singh, Swara Bhasker, Rashami Desai, Akanksha Puri, and Amol Palekar.

Along with participation from well-known figures from the entertainment industry, writers, veterans of the military, such as former Navy Chief Admiral L. Ramdas, opposition leaders like Aaditya Thackeray of the Shiv Sena and Supriya Sule of the NCP, as well as former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, have all joined the march at various points.
