Jamshedpur, Jan 31: East Singhbhum police and Ghaghidih Central Jail authorities carried out a joint raid on prison premises on Sunday night, but no banned item was recovered from the place once notorious for jailbreaks and bomb scares.
The raid which began at around 8 p.m. continued till 1 a.m.
Sources from the jail administration said no suspicious object was found during the five-hour raid that started.
The teams scanned all 13 wards of prison for cell phones and other prohibited items. In all there were 12 teams.
“Inmates’ belongings were searched and even their shoes were scanned meticulously,” said a jail official.
The official said they conducted such exercises at regular intervals to ensure prisoners don’t possess communication gadgets.
Dhalbhum SDO SK Meena and ADM (Law and Order) N K Lal led the district police team during the raid. The Quick Response Team also accompanied the team.
Spread over 13 acres, the Ghaghidih jail is also equipped with three jammers to block mobile signals.
Among 1,200-odd inmates of Ghaghidih jail are seasoned criminals.
Sources said the recovered materials included a few scissors and agricultural equipment.
