Raigad, July 22: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) continued its search and rescue efforts in the Raigad town of Irshalgad on Saturday, which had recently experienced a landslide. Officials reported that 22 bodies have so far been removed from the scene.

One NDRF team arrived on the scene early this morning. Additional teams are anticipated to join the search effort later today.

Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), will pay a visit to the landslide victims who are staying in a neighbouring temple this morning at about 10.30.

A landslide occurred in a tribal village located on a hillside in Khalapur Tehsil, Raigad District, about 80 kilometres from Mumbai around 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, paid a visit to the disaster area yesterday to assess the rescue and relief efforts. He also promised an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the relatives of the deceased, according to officials.

Chief Minister Shinde also spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah after the incident. Shah reported that the rescue effort will be carried out by four National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams.

Five more dead bodies were found on Friday, and the search and rescue operation was postponed for the day after consulting with the District administration owing to poor weather, according to SB Singh, commandant of the 5 Battalion, NDRF.
