Jamshedpur, Oct 21: Loitering inside Tatanagar station without platform tickets or parking vehicles at places other than the parking lot seems no longer to be thinkable.

Railway police have on Thursday arrested five persons from the station platforms by launching a drive which will continue from today onwards.

Similarly, the railway cops seized over a dozen two-wheelers parked just beside the entrance of the Tatanagar station along the Station-Parsudih Road.

While the owners of the vehicles were later let go with their vehicles as today being the first day of such drive, those found without platform tickets inside the station were sent to railway judicial custody.

“We have arrested five persons for loitering inside the railway station without platform tickets during a drive carried out this morning. The arrests were made under Section 145 of the Railway Act, ” said Sanjay Kumar Tiwari, inspector, Railway Protection Force, Tatanagar.

He said while two of those arrested were Auto-rickshaw drivers, three others were the ones who had come to the platforms for seeing off their near and dear ones without platform tickets.

Those arrested will be produced before a railway magistrate for prosecution.  He said the violators may be set free after paying penalty or will be sent to jail if they fail to pay the same.

Tiwari pointed out a similar drive would be carried out earlier also but from today onwards it will be carried out on a regular basis, the main reason being the railway authority wants the station premises free of unwanted persons.
