Daltonganj, Sept 15: A 35-year-old helper, identified as Rakesh Kumar Pandey, of the Kumandi railway station signal unit under the Dhanbad railway division of East Central Railway, died due to the jolt of goods train at around 1 am on Thursday.

Confirming the incident, the station superintendent of Latehar railway traffic, Inspector Bipin Bihari Upadhaya, said the helper was rectifying a fault in the signal on the Down line of the Kumandi railway station when an empty rake of a goods train arrived on the line, giving a jolt to Pandey who fell dead.

He further said that at the same time, there was another train on the Up line and the signal helper couldn’t sense the danger and died in harness.
