Ranchi, Oct.21: Eight pairs of trains linking three states – Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal – have been permanently halted by the Indian Railways. The information provided by the zonal office in response to an RTI request indicated this. The cancellation of these trains was linked to a decrease in passenger numbers, according to the railways.
The Ranchi-Patna AC Express, which runs between Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi and Bihar’s capital Patna via Koderma, Hazaribagh town, and Barkakana, is among the trains that have been cancelled by the South-Eastern Railway.
Howrah-Purulia Express, Kharagpur-Purulia Intercity Express, Tata-Lokmanya Tilak Antyodaya Express, Shalimar-Adra Rajyarani Express, Tata-Ranchi Intercity, Jhargram-Purulia Birsa Munda Express, and Kharagpur-Hijli EMU Passenger are among the trains that have been permanently halted by the South-Eastern Railway (both sides).
The Ranchi-Patna AC Express was the sole express passenger train that stopped in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh town. The Hazaribagh Town station will now solely operate goods trains.
In May of last year, the Railways announced that Hazaribagh Town station had become the 6000th station in the country to offer free Wi-Fi to travellers. Since the Railways made this declaration, not a single passenger train has passed through this station.
