Dhanbad, Oct 20: As per the notification of the Chancellor’s (Governor) office, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr PK Poddar today assumed charge as BBMKU Vice-Chancellor at Bhelatand-based institution’s headquarters in the morning.
The post of BBMKU Vice-Chancellor had been vacant since October 13 after Chancellor CP Radhakrishnan sacked Dr Sukhdeo Bhoi (Vice-Chancellor) on alleged administrative and financial irregularities.
For the last one week, the official functioning of the university had gone almost defunct. On Thursday late afternoon Raj Bhawan issued a notification assigning Pro-VC Dr PK Poddar on additional charge of Vice-Chancellor. Dr Poddar, who had been on leave returned on Monday and today in the morning took the charge.
The Post Graduate (PG) teachers of BBMKU Dhanbad have hailed Raj Bhawan’s decision to assign Dr PK Poddar on additional charge of Vice-Chancellor and expressed hope that under his leadership the institution would touch sky-high in terms of development.
PG Teachers Association president Dr Bhagwan Pathak and general secretary Dr DK Singh welcomed the step of Raj Bhawan for appointing Dr Poddar as Vice-Chancellor and expressed the hope that now the dream of Binod Bihari Mahto (late MP and JMM leader after whose name the university is created) would be fulfilled.
“Now the academic environment of the university would be congenial for teachers as well as students. We hope the university will make its mark in the country under the leadership of Dr Poddar as he has a vision and mission to achieve the goal said Dr Pathak and Dr Singh. Dr Krishna Murari (Philosophy), Dr Jitendra Aryan and Dr Masuque Ahmed (Urdu) also hailed the appointment of Dr Poddar.
Dr Ajit Kumar of the commerce department of the university said that teachers are grateful to Raj Bhawan for assigning Dr Poddar the responsibility of Vice-Chancellor. “Now mismanagement in the university would be ended and smooth functioning would resume. We hope whatever irregularities prevailed in the previous regime will be corrected one by one on a priority basis. The teachers of the university have high hopes from him”, he said.
Dr Poddar, who became Pro-Vice Chancellor last year, has vast experience in NAAC. He was a member of the NAAC Peer teams that inspected 20 institutions across the country. Moreover, he gives priority to holding seminars and research works and promotes them in the university.
