New Delhi, July 19: A Pakistani national who allegedly travelled into India in order to kill suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma has been detained in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganga Nagar area.
The detained Pakistani national is being questioned by a team from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and other intelligence organisations.
According to a senior Border Security Force (BSF) official, the individual was detained on July 16 at about 11 p.m. from a location close to the Hindumalkot border outpost. A patrolling squad discovered him in a questionable state, and he was promptly detained and frisked.
“We have found an 11-inch long knife, religious books, clothes, food and sand in the bag from his possession. He identified himself as Rizwan Ashraf, a native of Mandi Bahauddin city located in Northern Punjab of Pakistan,” he said.
He continued by saying that during the initial investigation, the suspect said he had crossed the border in order to kill Nupur Sharma because of her divisive comments about the Prophet. He had intended to carry out his plan after visiting the Ajmer Dargah.
He is being questioned by a team from IB, RAW, and military intelligence.
The action was taken in response to remarks made by now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma about the Prophet Mohammad, which sparked violent riots across the nation and attracted criticism from various Gulf nations.
