Ramgarh, Jan 24: A meeting was organised in the Ramgarh District Collectorate meeting hall under the chairmanship of Deputy Development Commissioner Nagendra Kumar Sinha on Tuesday regarding the Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign that is likely to be held from January 30 to February 13.

Kashinath Chakraborty, the State Consultant NLR Jharkhand said that people in remote areas need to be made aware of leprosy. Also, the necessary measures for the treatment of leprosy patients are to be carried out by identifying them in various ways.

Chakraborty also provided authorities with detailed information on what leprosy is, what causes leprosy, how the disease spreads, its symptoms, and its effects.

Meanwhile, Dr Swaraj, District Leprosy Prevention Officer informed all the in-charge medical officers and others about the leprosy patients and their current treatment in Ramgarh district.

To make the Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign successful, Ramgarh DDC instructed civil surgeons and other officials to prepare block-wise micro-plans and work according to the plan. He said that even today, people still have various misconceptions about leprosy. Such misconceptions are like a curse on society, so we all need to work together to solve them and take the necessary actions.

He also asked everyone to take every step to make the district leprosy-free, make every possible effort to identify leprosy patients as soon as possible and use all available resources in the district to achieve the goals.

People suffering from leprosy should not be discriminated. We should strive to eradicate discrimination and hatred against leprosy sufferers, individually and collectively, and bring it into the mainstream.

At the same time, he directed Rathu Mahato, Head of Bijulia Leprosy Colony, to provide a list of the colony’s deficiencies and their needs, so that appropriate steps could be taken to meet their needs.
