Ramgarh court sentences man to 12 years jail for kidnapping, raping minor

Ramgarh, Feb 15: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Radha Krishna on Monday sentenced Saarik Ansari alias W to 12 years imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a minor.

Apart from this, a fine of Rs.10,000 has also been imposed on the convict. Failure to pay the fine will result in imprisonment for three more years.

Saarik had lured the minor to Mumbai with him and kept her in Mumbai for about 15 days and raped her. On behalf of the prosecution, Additional Public Prosecutor SK Shukla had recorded the statement of nine witnesses, including the investigator of the case, Police Sub Inspector Ghanshyam Gop in the court. Based on the evidence presented, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced him.

The court sentenced him to eight years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000 under Section 366A of IPC, two additional years for non-payment of fine along with imprisonment of 12 years and a fine of Rs. 10,000 in section 6 of the POCSO Act.

The court has mentioned in its order that the punishment given under section 6 POCSO Act itself will have to be served by the accused.

The case dates back to 27th March 2015. An FIR was lodged in the matter on 31st March 2015.
