Ramgarh court sentences man to 20 years in jail for raping minor

Ramgarh, May 13: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge I Radha Krishna on Friday sentenced Mahesh Mahato, a convict of raping a four-and-a-half-year-old girl, to 20 years in prison.

Along with this, a fine of Rs 10,000 has also been imposed on him. The court has made a provision of additional imprisonment of two years in case of non-payment of the fine amount. During the hearing of the case under fast track, it was completed within a year.

The case is related to the Mandu police station area of ??Ramgarh district. The incident took place on 25 May 2022.

On 26 May 2021, the girl’s family members lodged an FIR against the accused in Mandu police station. Based on the evidence presented by Additional Public Prosecutor SK Shukla on behalf of the prosecution, the court sentenced the accused Mahesh Mahato to the accused under Section 376 AB and 6 POCSO Act of IPC.

The court had convicted the accused last day and fixed the date for hearing on the point of punishment.  In this case, on behalf of the prosecution, Dr Siren Shaheen, investigator of the case, police sub-inspector Manish Kumar, and the statement of 10 witnesses were recorded before the court.
