Ramgarh DC holds meet to control sale of tobacco products

Ramgarh, May 23: A workshop was organized on Tuesday under the National Tobacco Control Program under the chairmanship of DC Madhavi Mishra in the meeting hall of the Collectorate, Ramgarh.

Kailash Chandra Sahu, program coordinator of the Socio Economic and Educational Development Society (SEEDS), gave detailed information regarding the guidelines issued by the central and state government for the sale of tobacco products under the tobacco control program through PPT. He said that according to the guidelines, any shop where tobacco products are sold, any other products like biscuits, toffee, chips, cold drinks etc. are not to be sold.  Challan and other legal action are to be taken against them as per the provisions of the Act.  Along with this, he gave detailed information regarding the process of licenses given to shopkeepers for the sale of tobacco products. He said that if any shopkeeper sells tobacco products without a license, strict action can be taken against him.

The DC directed district and block-level coordinators for tobacco control to control tobacco products at the ground level.  Along with this, she directed them to make people aware of the ill effects of tobacco through awareness programs and to make people aware of not consuming tobacco. She directed to put up signage boards related to tobacco-free zone in all government offices and public places.  Along with this, she directed the District Superintendent of Education to organize awareness programs in all the schools mainly to make children aware of the ill effects of tobacco.

The officers and personnel present during the workshop took a pledge not to consume tobacco products and to make everyone aware of the ill effects of tobacco.
