MANOJ SINHA
Ramgarh, Sept 2: A drunken man was swept away from the Chhilka bridge of the famous Shaktipeeth Rajrappa temple in Ramgarh district on Saturday morning towards the confluence of River Damodar and Bhairavi.
The victim has been identified as Santosh Manjhi (35) a resident of Piprajara village of Gola block. He was crossing the Chhilka bridge in the morning and was going towards the direction of the temple when the strong current of the river Bhairavi water swept him away.
Before the incident, the shopkeepers present at the spot had shouted and forbade him to cross the bridge but he did not listen. So far, there are no reports of his whereabouts.
A shopkeeper named Prakash said, “Santosh Manjhi was under the influence of alcohol. The young man was trying to cross the Chhilka bridge in an intoxicated state but suddenly due to the strong current of water, he was washed away with the water.”
The water level of the Bhairavi river has increased after heavy rain on Friday. The temple Nyas committee is repeatedly requesting the public through public announcements to stay away from the banks of the river due to the danger.
