Ramgarh: Elephant herd kills CCL worker at Murmuta forest

Ramgarh, Aug 26: A man named Dilbharan Bedia (42), a resident of Murpa under Gola block of Ramgarh district died in an elephant attack near Murmuta forest at late night on Thursday.

The Gola police have taken the body into custody and sent it for postmortem today.

According to information, Dilbharan was going to work in the CCL washery of Rajrappa Project by a cycle along with two other friends from his village. During this, a herd of elephants near the Murmuta forest attacked him.

The elephants crushed and killed Dilbharan. His companions somehow escaped from there. The forest department officials who reached the spot on getting information had to face the fury of the villagers. Later, the dignitaries of the area convinced them and settled the matter. The villagers demanded the forest department provide protection from elephants and give proper compensation to the relatives of the deceased.

Notably, the violence against elephants has significantly increased in the Gola forest area in the last few months.

Earlier on Thursday, a compensation amount of Rs 2.75 lakh was distributed among 100 elephant-affected people of Nawadih and Sadam Panchayat by organizing a simple function at Forest Office Puberdih on Thursday.

Mukhiya Rajkishore Kotwar distributed the compensation for crop damage among three dozen villagers of Kuzukala, Serengatu, Sadam, Jayantibeda, Masaridih, along with Gram Panchayat Nawadih, 40 victims of Sondimra.
