MANOJ SINHA
Ramgarh: A herd of elephants crushed a man to death in the Murpa village under Gola police station area. The deceased has been identified as Jitu Mahto (55).
The elephants also ruined the paddy kept in the barn and created a ruckus. A sense of fear prevailed among the villagers after the incident.
The local forest department team led by Shiv Shankar Kumar reached the spot after receiving the information. He provided a compensation of Rs 20,000 to the family members of the victim. He also informed them that the remaining amount (Rs. 3, 80,000) will be given to them later.
This herd of elephants is being said to be destroying the paddy kept in the fields and barns. Villagers say that for the past several days, this herd has been creating terror in this area.
The villagers complained about this to the forest department several times. But it is alleged that the department is not paying attention to it due to which people are dying every day.
