Ramgarh, July 20: On the occasion of International Chess Day, an Inter House Chess Competition was organized at Shri Agrasen School, Bhurkunda.  Participants from Birsa Munda House, Mother Teresa House, CV Raman House and RN Tagore House participated in it.  In this three-day event, participants try chess tricks to defeat the opposite player.  Before this, the students were informed about the history and rules of chess.

School director Praveen Rajgarhia said that in today’s time, children are engaged in video games, which has a bad effect on their eyes and mind.  “We should encourage children to play games like chess.  Chess is a healthy brain game.  It makes the brain creative.  The ability to create new ideas increases.  There is no time limit in this game, so this game teaches us to take decisions with patience even in adverse circumstances.  Chess also improves children’s learning power, memory and ability to focus”.

Counsellor, motivator and tournament coordinator Mukhtar Singh shared his experience as a chess player.  He said that it is necessary to have concentration, strategic thinking and mental discipline in life, this game develops all these qualities in us.

Principal Vivek Pradhan said that a chess competition teaches students problem-solving, reasoning skills, concentration, learning from past mistakes, working under pressure and taking risks for success.

Class VIII student Anshu Gupta became the champion in the competition.  Shloka Kumar of class VIII stood second,  while the third position was bagged by Vani Pandey of class 12th.
