Ranchi, Feb 7: The district administration will prepare a shelter home for the transgender community, which will help transgenders who have been abandoned by their kin to get a shelter.
The information came to the fore after Deputy Development Commissioner Vishal Sagar held a meeting with District Social Welfare Officer Shatrunjay Kumar and Kumud Jha of NGO Divyam Dreams, which is working for the upliftment of the transgender community.
In the meeting, while discussing topics related to making Aadhar cards and transgender certificates, providing shelter, Covid-19 vaccination and health check-up to the transgender community to get the benefits of various schemes, the DDC gave necessary guidelines to the District Social Welfare Officer.
The DDC directed them to set up camps for making Aadhar cards for transgenders, for Covid-19 vaccination and health check-ups. He said that arrangements should be made to set up camps around the place where the transgender group is living.
The DDC asked the District Social Welfare Officer and the NGO representative to spread awareness among the transgender community about the benefits of the schemes available to them. He said that transgenders should be made aware to get more and more transgender certificates.
“If someone does not have a medical certificate of being transgender, then one can apply for a certificate by submitting an affidavit on a stamp paper of Rs 10. For transgender certificate, an application has to be made on the portal of National Portal for Transgender Person, Ministry of Justice and Empowerment, Government of India,” the DDC said.
