Ranchi, June 24: Admissions in colleges all over the state usually begin after the results of JAC boards, however, this year colleges seem to be taking their own sweet time.
Ranchi University, which usually starts the admissions process between March and June, is still waiting. When questioned about the reason for this delay, officials claimed that this session will note the implementation of the New Education Policy 2020, which is yet to be done.
When officials at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University were asked similar questions, they said, “We will be starting admissions soon, most probably by the first week of July.”
When questioned regarding the reasons for the delay, and if the implementation of NEP was a reason, he said, “It is quite early to say so as our new VC has just recently joined, and I have very little information regarding this at this point of time.”
Santosh Kumar at Gossner College, an autonomous college under the Ranchi University said, “We have begun taking admissions in the Mass Communication and Journalism department, however, other departments are yet to start taking admissions. We had to take permission from the college before this.”
When asked about the delay, Kumar said, “I have no idea as far as the reason for delay in admission is considered.”
Similar situations are faced by students that expect to get admissions in St Xavier’s College, Ranchi. An assistant professor, on the condition of not naming him said, “I am a former student of this college. I remember that admissions would begin by now. However, I feel that this year the delay is either caused due to Covid, or a delay in results of boards, of NEP. Any of these may be the reason.”
