It was getting around 9.30 am when the incident took place at Sahajanand Chowk under the Argora police station area.

“The lady, who was accompanied by a bodyguard provided by the district administration, took three bullets as three assailants riding on a bike came closer to her and opened fire,” a locality resident said.

Officer-in-charge of Argora police station Vinod Kumar confirmed the incident saying a probe has been started into the matter.

“She has been admitted to RIMS. Now the probe has been started. Assailants are yet to be identified,” OC Kumar said.

A high court advocate said the incident need proper probe as Baraik is still pursing legal battle against her sexual exploitation.

“After 12 years of legal battle, court exonerated Natranjan from the charges of sexual exploitation. Baraik, also known as Padma Bariak, filed a petition against this in the Jharkhand High Court. Her case bearing number WP (Cr) 531/2022 is still pending before the bench of Justice Sanjay Dwivedi and she is expected to appear in the case in person,” the high court advocate said.
