The Veterinarian at Birsa Zoological Park Dr O.P. Sahu spoke to lagatar24.com and shared the details about the plans to bring in the snake.
“We are planning to bring a King Cobra from the south and the director is in continuous contact with the officials of different zoos from the south. We are expected to get one this year. For the snake, we have made a separate cage as it stays both indoor and outdoor. So we have built the cage accordingly,” the doctor said.
Currently, the zoo is home to various venomous snakes such as Spectacle Cobra, Russell Viper, Pit Viper, Banded Krait and Common Krait. Apart from these, there are many non-venomous snakes as well such as the Indian python and Rat snake, commonly known as Dhamin.
King Cobra is particularly found in the Western Ghats in South India and the nearest location to Jharkhand where it can be found in Odisha. The snakes are known to be the king of snakes as it eats other venomous snakes such as the spectacle cobra.
