Ranchi, Dec.7: Former Chief Income Tax Commissioner Tapas Dutta’s wife Rupan Dutta was sent today to Birsa Munda Central jail in judicial custody.

The development took place after she surrendered before the CBI court here with a bail application. The situation came after the Supreme Court rejected her anticipatory bail plea in a disproportionate asset case.

The CBI made her an accused in a disproportionate assets case after her highly placed husband was caught accepting bribes on July 13, 2017. The CBI probe revealed that he amassed disproportionate assets of Rs 9.78 crore. Alongwith the lady other persons whom the CBI made accused included businessman Vishwanath Agrawal and Santosh Kumar Shah.

6.6 kilograms of gold and more than 3 crores in cash were found during the CBI raid on Tapas Dutta’s premises. The chargesheet claims that between April 1, 2012, and April 12, 2017, Tapas Dutta acquired assets out of proportion to his income of Rs 9.78 crore, excluding pay grades.
