Ranchi, Nov 7: Commuters in the city have been facing a tough time walking and driving on the roads since 9 am.

The situation arose after political party workers and organizations besides Sahiya Didis chose a road to agitate for their demands after all attempts to sort out their different problems through other means failed and they planned to march towards Raj Bhawan from the different corners of the state capital to draw the attention of the governor, who used to be representative of the President of India in the state.

A traffic constable supported the observation.

“Workers from all over the state started gathering in Ranchi this morning. From 9 am when city residents started leaving for their schools, colleges and business establishments besides offices and other destinations all the major roads leading to Raj Bhawan started getting crowded. Traffic congestion was worst from 9 am to 12 noon. Vehicles kept moving slowly on the road connecting Raj Bhavan with Kanta Toli. Major crowds were noticed at Bariatu, Kokar, Piska More, Kishoreganj and Kanke Road. Ambulances and school buses also got stuck in the jam.

Among those who caused traffic congestion included ruling parties JMM, Congress and RJD as these parties had to stage demonstrations in front of the Raj Bhawan to protest against the ED summoning Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Apart from ruling parties, those contributing to traffic congestion included Khatian Zameen Bachao Sangharsh Morcha, a front of 9 social organizations, which had planned a Raj Bhavan march on many issues including CNT-SPT, Mundari-Khuntkatti rights. CPI workers under the leadership of former MP Bhuvneshwar Mehta also played their role in causing traffic congestion as they marched to Raj Bhavan for their various demands. Poshan Sakhi and Sahiya were also demonstrating in front of the Raj Bhavan for their demands.

Dy SP (traffic) Jeetvahan Oraon confirmed the situation when contacted before filing this story saying ‘the problem still continues.’
