Ranchi, July 15: Former minister and Congress leader Yogendra Sao and his wife Nirmala Devi have got a big relief from the Ranchi Civil Court as it has acquitted them in a case of obstructing mining work and violating section 144.

The court pronounced the acquittal order after the prosecution failed to produce sufficient evidence before the court to prove its charge.

The case arose on September 16, 2006 when Sao and Devi along with their supporters were staging ‘Satyagraha’ against the land acquisition being done by NTPC in Hazaribagh district for mining purposes. During that time, the road leading to the mining site of NTPC was deliberately blocked by parking a private vehicle.

The mining work had got disrupted and an FIR was registered against Sao and Devi at the Barkagaon police station.
