Ranchi, May 18: After 14 years of trial, the Ranchi Civil Court convicted and sentenced 10 years imprisonment to a physiotherapist of a private hospital, Dr Ravi Kumar, for killing his wife for dowry.
The order came from the court of additional judicial commissioner Rai. As many as seven witnesses were examined from the prosecution side while three witnesses were produced from the defense side in the court during the trial.
Apart from 10 years in jail, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
The case arose after Payal Katri was strangled to death and set on fire in 2008 a few days after her marriage. Payal’s father Prem Kumar Khatri registered an FIR in this connection at Chutia police station.
