Ranchi: CUJ organises book discussion on ‘E-Governance and Citizen Engagement’

Ranchi, Jan 11: A discussion on the book titled ‘E-Governance and Citizen Engagement: New Directions in Public Administration’ published by Sage Publication was organized by the Department of Mass Communication, the Central University of Jharkhand on Wednesday.

The event was organized in online mode in the presence of the author of the book having a conversation with Dr. Alok Kumar Gupta, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, CUJ. The book has been authored by Prof. Sangita Dhal, Professor, Department of Political Science, Kalindi College, Delhi University. She is also a UGC Post-Doctoral Research Awardee with more than eighteen years of teaching and research experience in the field of public administration, public policy and governance.

 

During the conversation, Dr. Alok Gupta interacted with Prof. Sangita Dhal about the various aspects of the book. They discussed the importance of e-governance in the era of new media. They also discussed the benefits of the book for the students. Responding to the utility of the book Prof. Dhal reflected, “this is a first comprehensive textbook that provides a conceptual and theoretical understanding of e-governance and how it addresses various emerging concerns of public administration in India. The book offers a compact analysis of emerging themes such as e-learning, e-health, geographical information system and cyber security that provides a blend of normative and empirical case studies and relevant examples.”

Dr. Alok Kumar Gupta elaborated on the positive aspects of the book and recent trends in e-governance in the context of India and the world.  In post book discussion, the floor was opened for the audience to Questions and Answers. The event was marked by the presence of around 130 participants who joined through Google Meet.

The programme began with a formal introduction by Dr. Sudarshan Yadav, the Convener of the event. He outlined the programme and the book. The formal welcome of the guests was done by Dr. Vimal Kishor, Dean of, School of Mass Communication and Media Technologies.

Sharing his views on the book, the Dean said, “This is a nice initiative where academic ideas and books are discussed for the benefit of the students, scholars and faculties.” Reflecting on the topic he said, “today ICT has revolutionized every field and has made human life easy, accessible and more informed.”

The event was concluded by a vote of thanks by Dr. Amrit Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication. Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Ram Niwas Suthar and all teaching and non-teaching employees of the Department of Mass Communication, CUJ were present during the event.
