Ranchi, June 10: Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan issued prohibitory order in Jharkhand capital after 12 persons, including policemen sustained injuries in a scuffle between Jharkhand police and Muslims demonstrating against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s statement against Prophet Mohammed a few days ago.

Main Road deserted after clashes.

Under the prohibitory assembly of five or more than five persons is prohibited in a stretch between Sujata Chowk to Firayalal Chowk on Main Road and the 500m area adjoining the stretch. There is no direction regarding any prohibitory order in any part of the city.

The clash took place after protesters took out a protest march after Friday Namaz on Main Road and during the progress of the march a section of youth threw stones at the police officials and resorted to vandalism at the structure beside the protest route on Main Road.

Initially, cops used stones to deal with the problem, but after realising the intensity of the situation, they resorted to firing. The majority of those hurt have bullet wounds and are being treated at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

Following the clash situation became tense across the city and rumours started flying thick and fast. The police personnel put a barricade near Sujata Chowk and did not allow any movement towards Firayalal Chowk. All traffic coming towards Firayalal Chowk was diverted towards Pee Pee Compound or towards Club Road.

As the clash took place, the traders downed their shutters, and security personnel of different business establishments became alert. Customers remained stranded at many places and many guests who had to catch aeroplanes, trains or buses found themselves in trouble.

Earlier, closing their business establishments the Muslim community staged a demonstration against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma for her negative remark toward Prophet Mohammed.

A major protest was noticed near Equra Mosques and Main Road on the Main Road where a section of Muslims was noticed shouting anti-Sharma slogans and demanding capital punishment for her.

A proper security arrangement was made on the Main Road when the protest was on and a section of Muslims was offering Namaz as a matter of their Friday (Jumma) routine.
