Ranchi, Sept 20: Devkamal Hospital and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), under its CSR initiative, will provide free-of-cost cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries under Mission Smile between Sept 24 to 27.
“This is our first comprehensive surgical mission in Ranchi and second in Jharkhand. So far, 150 plus patients have been operated in Jharkhand so far through our surgical mission and our outreach centre in Jamshedpur,” the press release read.
The hospital is expecting around 80-100 patients to be screened on Sept 24 followed by surgeries between Sept 25 to 27.
“It is expected that the four day comprehensive cleft surgical camp will provide more than 50 cleft surgeries through a team of medical experts from the field of plastic surgery, oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Anaesthesiology, Paediatrics, Dentistry, speech-language pathology and nursing across the country,” the press release stated.
Dr Anant Sinha, Director, Devkamal Hospital said that the doctors, nurses and staff of Para Medical will contribute in the cleft surgery. All the basic facilities including operation theatre, recovery ward, post operative ward of the hospital will be provided to the patients coming for treatment. He said that out of 700 children in the country, one child is born with cleft. Out of 500 new born babies in Jharkhand, atleast one has cleft problem.
Moreover, Rafi of Mission Smile said that since 2003, their organisation is contributing in cleft surgery. So far, 65,000 children have been successfully operated across the country. Of these, in Northeast India, around 22,000 children were operated which is the most. A surgery costs Rs 80,000 to Rs one lakh. Doctors from not only India but also from abroad will contribute in the surgery.
