Ranchi, May 9: Santosh College of Teacher’s Training and Education conducted a national seminar on Monday to discuss Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its opportunities and challenges in education, health and nutrition in tribal dominated Jharkhand.

Dr Arvind Choubey, Director of IIIT Bhagalpur shared his experiences of using AI on a daily basis and what are its drawbacks and glitches that needs to be solved.

“I would like to inform everyone that AI is not useful all the time. Many times when we use AI apps such as maps, it ends up showing us wrong routes or directions which ends up consuming our time. There is no doubt that there are a lot of glitches in artificial intelligence,” he added.

He further informed that his institute is always ready to provide training on AI to students from other universities who have keen interest.

Dr Kamini Kumari, Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University discussed the importance of AI in our lives.

“AI has made life easier for us and our children. We can now book cars using AI and use maps to travel in a new city without any hassle. However, just like every coin has two sides, we should also be aware of its cons. One of the biggest drawbacks of AI is that it gives rise to unemployment,” she said.

She further added that Artificial Intelligence should be used by people but it should not reduce our creativity. Children should be informed about the drawbacks before they start using it.

Dr Rashmi Prasad, Director of  Santosh College of Teacher’s Training and Education was also present on the occasion.

Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh gave his insight on the importance of AI in the tribal dominated Jharkhand. He said that AI is never going to replace human intelligence in the future.

“AI has gained prominence in the last 5-6 decades and it has now become a part of our lives. It is a form of disruptive technology but it is useful. We have been using AI in the Judiciary in the form of Chat bots when lawyers and judges research about a case. They can type their queries in it and the chatbot provides the data,” he informed.

Talking about the importance of AI in Jharkhand, he said that the challenges are quite serious and AI can help in achieving a lot of sustainable goals in the rural areas. He added that Malnutrition is one of the concerns in rural Jharkhand and it can be removed by AI by using scanners to scan children. The Malnourished child can be provided with proper nutrition and data can be maintained.

He further added that life threatening disease can be cured in villages by storing the data of the patient in cloud storage and providing them with wearable health devices such as a watch.

He concluded by saying that though the challenges are tough, it is important to meet the challenges and utilize the opportunities to implement AI in tribal dominated Jharkhand.
