Ranchi, May 21: Former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi and the son of JMM chief Shibu Soren, Durga Soren, were remembered in Ranchi on their death anniversary on Saturday.
Rajiv Gandhi was remembered at HM Public School in Chutia. People under the aegis of the Private School and Children Welfare Association, (PASWA) remembered the former prime minister for his initiative for development in the field of information technology, Panchayati Raj and the computer revolution, women empowerment, youth empowerment, war against terrorism
Durga Soren was remembered for his role in the struggle for Jharkhand separate state. Father and brother of Durga Soren respectively Rajya Sabha member Shibu Soren and Chief Minister Hemant Soren garlanded the life-size statue of the JMM leader.
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on the night of May 21, 1991, at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu by a woman suicide bomber at a poll rally. He was only 46 years old when he was assassinated.
While Durga Soren died at his Bokaro residence in his sleep on 21 May 2009 at the age of 40.
