Ranchi, Dec 6: A two-day Hodopathy Ethno Medicine (Tribal Medicine) awareness/ workshop was organised by the National SC-ST Hub, Ministry of MSME, Government of India, Ranchi at Jesia Bhawan, Kokar, Ranchi.

Notably, some demands were also placed by the organisation from the government such as Hodopathy should be included in AYUSH and the National Institute of Ethno Medicine should be established. They also said that fund allocation should be done for Hodopathy research trade business.

The program was organised in collaboration with the Tribal Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Women’s Wing and the Homeopathy Ethno Medicine Doctors Association of India.

Around 50 experts and practitioners and tribal entrepreneurs were also present in the program. The participants mainly came from Thiruvananthapuram.

The purpose of the program was to create awareness among the people about tribal medicine and also to highlight its entrepreneurial aspects. Dr KK Radhakrishnan (Retd) Principal Scientist, Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden & Research Institute, Kerala stressed the need to conserve and promote ethnomedicine including homoeopathy as it is not only the ‘mother of all systems of medicine’ but also an invaluable heritage of our nation and the world.

He also focused on the cultivation of essential medicinal plants for AYUSH industries using farmer groups on an MoU basis so that farmers can get fair prices and industries can get genuine raw materials.

The “Mattathur Model of Cultivation of Medicinal Plants” implemented by the State Medicinal Plants Board, Kerala is a shining example. Dr Radhakrishnan, present as the chief guest, explained the importance of tribal medicine in the present times and said that our forests have unlimited reserves of medicinal plants, where if we research this, then we all know that there is a cure for the biggest diseases.

“Our cure is also hidden in our nature itself. This quality is found in the tribal community since ancient times. By consuming it, we remain completely healthy, but in the era of modernity, along with diseases, the side effects of modern medicines have also increased, but in the Corona era, people have understood its importance. Today’s program is to give a global shape to our methods and People also have to be made aware about the generated entrepreneurship,” he said.
