Ranchi: June 10 violence accused files bail petition in lower court

Ranchi, June 22: One of the accused of June 10 violence, Mohammed Arif, filed a bail petition in the court of Judicial Magistrate A Srivastava pleading innocence.

Arif’s advocate Pritanshu Singh informed about the development saying the matter would be heard on Wednesday. He said police have booked Arif under various sections of IPC including 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 341 (unlawful restraint), 427 (mischief), 295(A) (attacking place of worship) and 120B (conspiracy).

Violence had erupted on June 10 after a march taken out after Jumma Namaz (Friday prayer) to protest against the derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed by suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma became unruly. Two youths were killed in police firing in the incident. The District administration had to make several prohibitory orders to maintain law and order after the incident. Even internet service remained suspended for around 30 hours.
