Ranchi, June 20: A special court today pronounced one and a half years’ jail to an assistant of the Marriage Registration Office in Ranchi, Dawood Ali, for demanding Rs 1000 as bribe for issuing a marriage certificate.
The quantum of punishment is one and half year imprisonment and Rs 6000 fine. In case of non-payment of fine, the court provided an additional imprisonment of 4 months.
The case arose on March 4, 2006 after Rangnath Ram knocked the door of the ACB sharing information regarding demand of bribes and the ACB after preliminary inquiry found the allegation true. The charge sheet in the case had been filed on July 4, 2009.
The prosecution presented as many as nine witnesses in the case and after examination of witnesses the court found Ali guilty of demanding bribes. Finally, the court convicted and sentenced him.
