Jamshedpur, Jan 15 : IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre did the state proud as it was adjudged the best meteorological of the country.
Head of Ranchi Met Centre Abhishek Anand received the award during the 148th Foundation Day function of IMD held in Mausam Bhawan in New Delhi this evening.
The award was given away by Jitendra Singh, minister of state (Independent Charge), Ministry of Earth Sciences who was the chief guest .
Anand expressed happiness on getting the award. He said Ranchi Met Centre got the coveted award for the first time.
The award carried a shield and a certificate.
Some of the major works done by the Meteorological Centre during the past one year included setting up of 50 variable message sign boards ( VMSB ) for Ranchi Smart City project
It provides weather information on daily basis with sunrise, sunset data which are continuously displayed in VMSB throughout the day.
CAP-SACHET (Common Alerting Protocol) has been successfully implemented. For this, warning alerts are disseminated to the public in coordination with the state disaster management.
Impact based forecasting and crop related advisories are also given for agriculture sector.
Ranchi Met Centre coordiinates with Jharkhand Space Application Centre, Jharkhand state government, for provision of vulnerability data to issue impact based forecast.
Students from schools and colleges are invited to Ranchi Met Centre office to get basic knowledge on meteorological aspects and methods of observation.
It also tied up with engineering colleges and research institutes.
Weather services for Deoghar airport became fully operational in July last year.
Weather information was easily made available to the general public through social media.
Abhishek Anand congratulated all the Met department personnel and staff for this big achievement.
Talking to this portal he said Ranchi Met Centre was adjudged the best among 22 Met centres located in the capital of 22 states apart from six other regional Met centres.
