Ranchi, April 21: As people in Ranchi are facing water issues in various parts of the city, the Secretary of Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, Prashant Kumar, has ensured that the city will not have any shortage of water supply as there is plenty of water in the reservoirs.
Speaking to the media, he said that the issues regarding water in the city are continuously monitored through the complaints issued at Jhar-Jal App, Whatsapp, e-mail or toll free number.
“We are continuously monitoring every complaint registered in the portal or in the troll free number. A total of 2326 complaints have been received till date out of which 1502 have been resolved,” he said.
He added that there are a total of 4,40,767 hand pumps in the State out of which 30,940 are in Ranchi. Out of these, 16,764 have been set up in April this year.
By the year 2024, The department has planned to provide functional taps to a total of 59,23,320 rural households in the state in a phased manner. In 2019, there were around 3,45,165 households in the state that had functional taps which has gone up to 11,60,370 in March 2022.
In the year 2022-23, around 22,00,000 households should have functional taps in Jharkhand whereas in 2023-24 it should be 25,62,950.
Kumar explained that water testing is being done regularly by strengthening all the 29 water testing laboratories in the state. In the year 2021-22, a total of 1,67,000 water samples were tested across 19,727 villages.
