Ranchi, Feb.9: The PMLA Court today took up the case of accepting cash for managing a PIL involving Jharkhand High Court advocate Rajeev Kumar and Kolkata-based businessman Amit Agrawal.
No development took place in the case as when the matter was taken up advocates, Vidyut Kumar Chourasia and Shambhu Agrawal, both representing businessmen Agrawal and advocate Kumar, in the court prayed for time to file a discharge petition and the court allowed their prayers.
Hearing in the matter was deferred till February 22.
Special Public Prosecutor Shiv Kumar alias Kaka ji representing the ED was present in the court when the development took place. The ED has registered case number ECIR-05/2022 in the case related to PIL management.
The case arose after on July 31 last year advocate Kumar was arrested in Kolkata following the allegation of businessman Agrawal that in the name of providing relief in a public interest litigation filed against him in the Jharkhand High Court advocate Kumar demanded money.
Agrawal alleged that the advocate first demanded Rs 10 crore, but later it was decided to pay Rs one crore. Kumar had come to metropolitan Kolkata only to get Rs 50 lakh as first installment.
