VIJAY DEO JHA
Ranchi, Dec 15: The Special PMLA court of Prabhat Kumar Sharma in Ranchi has summoned the superintendent of the Birsa Munda Central Jail Hamid Akhtar. The court has asked him to physically appear on December 16.
Well-placed sources said that the court summoned him following a complaint from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that the jail superintendent was not providing CCTV footage of the jail despite the order of the court.
Notably, the ED is investigating the MNREGA scam, the illegal stone mining case and the cash for PIL case. Accused persons of these cases including IAS Pooja Singhal, Jharkhand CM’s MLA representative Pankaj Mishra, Kolkata-based businessman Amit Agrawal, power broker Prem Prakash and one Bacchu Yadav are lodged in this jail.
The ED has information that these high-profile undertrials violated jail manuals inside the jail. The ED also strongly doubts that these high-profile accused influenced the ongoing probe. But the jail administration denied giving access to these CCTV stating that it would infringe on the privacy of jail inmates. The ED repeatedly approached the jail but the CCTV footage was not given.
