Ranchi, Feb 21: Police arrested three who had decamped with jewellery worth more than Rs 70 lakh from a jewellery shop near Mission Chowk in Mandar, Ranchi on February 11 in broad daylight. The looted ornaments have been recovered from their possession.

A police official said that out of the three arrested, two are residents of Argora police station while one is a resident of the Kanke police station area.

SP (rural) Naushad Alam confirmed the breakthrough but said detailed information on this matter will be given in a press conference expected in the evening.

Three armed miscreants had struck Shanker and Son Jewellers, about 30 km from Jharkhand capital, and decamped with ornaments worth more than Rs 70 lakhs besides Rs 40,000 cash and three mobile phones worth Rs 1.10 lakh.

The CCTV footage collected from the shop suggested that it was a four-minute operation which started at 2:26 pm. The CCTV footage showed two armed miscreants with their faces covered with helmets and masks asking the shop owner Abhay Soni to hand over all ornaments and cash at gunpoint and Soni was noticed following the diktat out of fear.

Soon after the incident, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal constituted a special investigation team (SIT) including Khalari deputy superintendent of police Animesh Naithani, Mandar police station in-charge besides others and a technical cell was activated to collect call dumps and other necessary technical data to corner the culprit. Finally, the 10-day exercise yielded results.
