Ranchi, Sept 30: Amid confusion over the mental status of the person in police custody for damaging the idol of Lord Hanuman, Ranchi police today requested the public be aware of rumours to foil the attempt of anti-social elements to spoil the festive atmosphere.

The request has been made through an appeal suggesting people not share any post on social media without proper verification. Apart from this, people have also been asked to alert the police in case of any information suggesting the possibility of any untoward incident.

The police have made WhatsApp number 6299423768, helpline number 112 and Twitter account @ranchipolice and Facebook page of Ranchi Police with the public to share information circulate an appeal on social media.

A Hindpiri resident supported the appeal of the police saying being communally sensitive, special precaution is required to be taken. He said a section of people in Ranchi love spreading hate messages and immediately start dividing people into communal lines once any incident of crime takes place at any religious place.

“The youth who is in police custody for damaging the idol of Lord Hanuman is being treated by CIP doctors. He had also damaged Imambara near Gwala Toli and had left his house saying he would also damage the mosque. However, the way the matter was presented was that it was an organized attack on the temple. People in the city should know that there is Devi Mandap near Islami Markaz in Hindpiri but instead of making people aware of that good co-existence hate messages were spread to promote divisive politics,” the Hindpiri resident said.
