Ranchi, Sept.14: Having failed to arrest anyone for attempting to murder a video journalist, Baijnath Mahto, in more than 72 hours after the incident, Ranchi police today constituted a special investigation team (SIT) under a deputy superintendent of police and declared a reward of Rs 25000 for seeking information about the prime suspect, Benga alias Akash.
Police while declaring the reward also released the photograph of Akash for ready reference. The youth is a resident of the same Tiril basti under Sadar police station area where Mahto was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood till police reached getting information through Dial-100 and got him admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in critical condition.
Senior superintendent of police Surendra Kumar Jha informed about the development saying that the step was taken to nab the culprit soon. He, on the occasion, also informed about the steps taken by police to nab the culprit.
“So far police have raided 15 locations in Ranchi besides several other locations outside Ranchi,” SSP Jha said.
Meanwhile, the condition of Mahto sustaining grievous injuries in his head continues to be critical at RIMS. A doctor attending him said he has not regained his sense and his treatment is being done by a conventional method.
