Ranchi, June 13: Relatives and sympathizers are worried as police in the city are in action to bring normalcy to the city after June 10 violence that left two dead and several injured.
This was reflected at Gudri under the Lower Bazar police station area in the city’s heart, where hundreds of people hit the road when police restrained four Maulanas to hold a meeting at the office of Imarat e Sharia and took a youth in custody for questioning.
Police had tough times justifying its action. While the policemen were saying that any meeting during the enforcement period of section 144 of CrPC is prohibited, locality residents were not convinced.
As Gudri remained disturbed taking people’s protest, police sealed the locality and restricted movement in that area.
While people were noticed on the road at Gudri, some of the women were noticed at Kotwali police station in the city heart saying police lifted two people from Doranda and questioned them at Kotwali police station.
“My son is innocent. Even then the police lifted him in the wee hours without assigning any reason,” an old lady said.
Similar reports are coming from other police station areas as the police so far have taken 24 suspects in custody for questioning.
Police officials were too busy to take calls. Sources in the police department said all attempts are being made to ascertain the mastermind of the June 10 violence which was the first of its kind in the state capital during which religious places are targetted.
“Maulanas are under scanner for their acts and omission. Those who did not inform police despite having a plan of violence and those having hand in violence both are on the radar of police,” a police official said.
