Ranchi, March 31: After 14 years of trial, the lower court acquitted the accused of real estate financer Raju Dhanuka murder case, Taufique alias Rinku, due to lack of evidence.

The order came after the prosecution failed to prove charges beyond reasonable doubts despite presenting five witnesses.

The case arose after an FIR was registered at the Kotwali police station on March 14, 2009 after the businessman was shot dead on the ground floor of Panchwati Plaza, a marketing complex in the heart of the town, when he was leaving his office for home.

The incident left the business community in the city shocked. The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) along with the Jharkhand Truck Owners’ Association staged demonstrations against the incident and also demanded a CBI probe.

On March 28, the police produced one Mahammad Imbroz alias Sonu who was named the shooter. The police said he had received Rs 3 lakh from gang leader Lakhan Singh for killing Dhanuka.

On May 10, the city police attached the property of Lakhan Singh alias Vikas Singh and Amar Singh and Tauqueer, naming them to be the main persons involved in the murder.

On May 13, 2009 Governor Syed Sibtey Razi ordered a CBI probe into the killing of real estate financier Raj Kumar Dhanuka nearly two months after the state police failed to make any breakthrough in the case.
