Dhanbad, March 31: The activists of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) today locked BSK College Maithon in support of their demands including the posting of a regular principal in the institution.
Following the agitation of NSUI, the college administration had to cancel the internal examination of geography, history and political science subjects scheduled for the day.
For a moment tension also prevailed on the campus of the college when the activists of NSUI and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) came face to face on the issue of locking the college’s gate. However, before the situation took an ugly turn, Maithon police intervened and averted the clash.
Earlier in the morning as per their pre-announced programme, the activists of NSUI reached BSK College at around 10 am and locked the main gate of the institution.
Examinees of different subjects waited for more than an hour for entry but returned to their homes on seeing the tense situation. Teachers and non-teaching staff of the institution also returned.
The ABVP activists opposed the agitation of the NSUI and began grouping for forceful entry into the campus. Police reached there on receiving the information. The ABVP activists began demanding action against the NSUI activists for the unlawful closure of the institution. They also reached the office of SDPO Pitamber Singh Kherwar for action.
NSUI district secretary Rohit Pathak, who was leading the agitation, said that despite repeated demands regular classes are not being held in the college.
“The institution is badly affected due to the absence of a regular principal and shortage of teachers in different departments. Major financial scam has been committed in the name of NAAC grading. NSUI only demands holding regular classes and probes of scam,” said Pathak.
NSUI district vice-president Ravi Paswan, BSK Maithon College unit, vice-president Manish Jha, secretary Atish Gope and RS More College president Moin Ansari were also leading the agitation from the front.
