Ranchi, Jan.17: The Jharkhand police constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe how an IIM student died in his hostel room.
The development took place after recovery of the body of the student, Shivam Pandey (23), a resident of Varanasi in UP. in a mysterious circumstance from his hostel room at Nagri in the outskirts of the city.
Both hands of the student were tied while his body was hanging from the ceiling fan of the room on the fifth floor. His knee was touching the ground.
S.P.(rural) Naushad Alam confirmed the development saying the DSP (headquarters), Praveen Kumar, will head the team. The team will have to ascertain the circumstances under which the body was found in that situation. It will properly examine the autopsy report, check the mobile recovered from the spot and collect all relevant materials to ascertain the reason behind the incident.
Shivam Pandey was a resident of Lanka police station area of Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh.
The matter came to the fore after IIM-R officials broke and opened the door after getting no response from outside after repeated attempts.
Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police Kishore Kaushal confirmed the recovery saying ‘prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide as the door was found closed from outside.’
“Close relatives of the student suspected otherwise, saying it was wrong on the part of the IIM management to break open the door without informing the police. IIM officials said the door was broken open with an intention to save the student in case of any chance. Probe is on,” Kaushal said.
