Ranchi, Jan.6: An unclaimed body of a baby girl was recovered from a place behind Bariatu police station this evening.
Officer-in-charge of Bariatu police station Gyan Ranjan confirmed the recovery saying the body was sent to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
“By visual inspection the baby girl appeared 24 hours old,” OC Ranjan said.
An FIR under section 317 of IPC (Exposure and abandonment of a child under twelve years, by a parent or person having care of it) was yet to be registered in this connection.
A police official said whoever being the father or mother of a child under the age of twelve years, or having the care of such child, shall expose or leave such child in any place with the intention of wholly abandoning such child, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, or with fine, or with both.
Earlier on February 16 last year an unclaimed baby girl had been recovered alive from the pathological examination centre, Health Map, in the campus of premier state run health institute of the state Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
Close to the baby girl a bottle of milk was kept suggesting those who left her had no intention to kill but to have no option other than leaving her. By the way, she was just two days old.
