Ranchi, June 6: For the convenience and safety of passengers, the Ranchi rail division has installed two Hot Axle Box Detectors at important rail sections of Ranchi Railway Division, which will enable more safe operation of trains.
The first detector is installed under the Pokla station located in the Hatia-Nuagaon section and the second one at Harubera station located in the Muri-Barkakana section.
During the operation of trains, if a fault occurs due to a defect in the bearings fitted in the axle box during the course of the wheel’s rotation, the bearing generates excessive heat. This is called a hot axle. Due to the hot axle of the wheel, sometimes there is a possibility of accidents, which can be the following:
(a) The possibility of fire in the train and derailment of the trains increases.
(b) The affected coach/wagon has to be disconnected in-route as a preventive measure in case of hot strokes, which increases the maintenance cost and other trains in the entire section are not operated in time.
The Hot Axle Box Detector device automatically calculates the temperature of the wagon and coach wheel. It displays the information on the computer screen installed in the control room at the earliest so that the increased temperature of the wheel and the fault are detected immediately. After getting the information and examining that wheel, a proper decision is taken and a big accident can be avoided in time.
